These days, words such as “wellness” and “wellbeing” are thrown about so often that they can sometimes sound more like buzzwords. But what do these terms mean? 

Put simply, your wellness and wellbeing are all about you feeling happy and being healthy.  

My name is Casey and I’m the Care Operations Manager at Woolooware Shores, leading a team of nearly 30 people, who are employed by the village to help you live a happier, healthier life.  

You may have already heard about the care team who are on-site 24/7 or even the nursing clinic which runs every day of the week.  

My team’s shared mission goes beyond healthcare — our care is about the wellness and wellbeing of your whole person including body, mind and spirit. 

Here are seven ways we can help you to live happier and healthier at Woolooware Shores.

1. Live your life stress free.

The benefit of choosing to live at Woolooware Shores is having a peace of mind when it comes to care. In the event of a medical episode, you will have someone you know and trust in your corner, helping you decide on the best course of action.  

That is the beauty of living in the only retirement village in the Sutherland Shire that offers you the security of round-the-clock care.  

Did you know that there are other ways that living here can help you lower the stress in your life? Enter the Lagoon Wellness Centre. 

This is where you can find me and the rest of the care team, including the nursing clinic which operates seven days a week. There’s a number of services here, including: 

  • Exercise physiologist to improve your fitness 
  • Physio 
  • Podiatrist 
  • Hearing service 
  • Gym 
  • Pool 

If you need to visit a GP at Woolooware Shores, they will be available Tuesdays to Thursdays. 

You’ll need to pay for these services, as you normally would, but having an on-site facility will save you having to drive to and from different appointments and thanks to our on-site golf buggy, residents will be able to book it in and have somebody pick them up from their home — all free of charge.

You can also get your next hair and beauty treatments taken care of without having to leave Woolooware Shores.

2. Keep fit with regular on-site fitness classes. Made for you! 

In addition to offering one-to-one sessions, our exercise physiologist also offers group fitness like aqua, gym and balance classes. These classes are tailored for our residents and can be modified for all fitness levels and abilities, so you never have to worry about missing out again. Our visiting trainers also offer more choice with weekly Zumba, Tai Chi and even Chair Yoga classes. 

If you don’t move it, you lose it. This is a great way to keep moving and stay fit, as well as being beneficial rehab for certain conditions. It’s also a wonderful way to get out and about and meet new people. Plus, you’re guaranteed to have a blast too! 

3. Build an active lifestyle you love. 

If group fitness is not for you, there are plenty of other ways for you to build an active lifestyle that you love at Woolooware Shores. 

Perhaps popping down to the pool to do laps is more your style, or getting reps in at the gym on your own. If gym isn’t your version of living an active lifestyle, we also have table tennis, or enjoying a long walk around the village.

However you like to stay active, you’re sure to find a way to enjoy it here at Woolooware Shores.  

4. Refresh in Creation. Every day.

Woolooware Shores is a beautiful village to look at and a beautiful place to be every day. The grounds are level and flat, and there are walkways everywhere to safely get out and about and enjoy the fresh air and the water views. There is even a walkway on the village waterfront that continues past the village boundary for you to explore and enjoy.  

5. Nourish your body. 

If you hate being in the kitchen, then you’ll love your food options at Woolooware Shores. Our on-site café, Watercress Café, has a great selection of staple meals, new specials for variety, and even throws the occasional dinner event. This can take the hassle out of having to cook at home, even the budding chef will enjoy. 

6. Recharge your spirit. 

Our chaplaincy team at Woolooware Shores are here to support you in the tough times and celebrate with you in the good. No matter your faith, this chaplaincy support is for anyone who needs a listening ear and a friend. It’s about making sure that you are truly cared for as a whole person — mind, body and spirit.  

There’s never a shortage of anything to do here because there is always so much happening… but you needn’t feel overwhelmed. You can involve yourself in as much or as little as you choose. We are here to help you build a life that’s going to make you as happy and healthy as you can be.
