Anglicare breaks ground on landmark waterfront restaurant in Sydney's Sutherland Shire

20 February 2025

Anglicare Sydney has officially broken ground on Heirloom, a first-of-its-kind waterfront restaurant, nestled on the picturesque shoreline of Woolooware Bay in Taren Point, Sydney. Set within the lively Woolooware Shores seniors’ living village, Heirloom is the first waterfront dining experience of its kind in a seniors’ living community across Sydney. Drawing inspiration from the Mediterranean, the restaurant promises a fresh and vibrant dining experience that will be enjoyed by all.

Marking the construction milestone was a sod-turning ceremony held on-site today, attended by key representatives from Anglicare, Simon Miller, CEO of Anglicare Sydney, and Liza Fox, Woolooware Shores' Village General Manager; construction partner Meridian, Matt Hunter, Director; project manager Willow Frank, Lawrence Leong, Executive Director; and Simon Kennedy MP, Federal Member for Cook.

Influenced by the whitewashed coastal architecture and sun-drenched landscapes of the Mediterranean, the venue blends soft curves with warm, earthy, terracotta and travertine tones to create a seamless connection between the restaurant and its stunning waterfront surroundings.

DKO Senior Associate, Emma Greenstein said the design was shaped by a vision of effortless coastal elegance, ensuring the restaurant complements both the natural surrounds and the broader Woolooware Shores Village.

“Our goal was to capture the essence of Mediterranean hospitality—a space that feels effortlessly welcoming, where people naturally gather, and where food and community go hand in hand.”

The overall concept, inspired by the ‘blue zones’ encourages visitors to move naturally to the venue, connect with family and friends, enjoy fresh produce while soaking up uninterrupted water views. With a combination of indoor and outdoor seating, the venue will comfortably hold up to 100 people.

A standout feature of the venue’s design is the open-plan style kitchen and woodfire pizza oven, providing a sensory connection to the cooking process. Personal ‘heirlooms’, contributed by Woolooware Shores’ residents, will also be woven into the interior design, providing a deeply personal and nostalgic touch.

Woolooware Shores Village General Manager Liza Fox said the venue will reflect Woolooware Shores’ lifestyle-first offering and unique approach to seniors living.

“As its name suggests, Heirloom isn’t just about great food - it’s about creating a place where people feel at home, where conversations flow easily, and where the beauty of Woolooware Bay enhances every dining experience. It will be a space for residents to connect, while also welcoming the wider community to enjoy this incredible location.”

Woolooware Shores by Anglicare is located at 2-28 Alexander Ave, Taren Point NSW 2229. Further details, including chef appointments and menu previews, will be shared in the coming months. Construction is expected to be completed in late 2025, with Heirloom opening to the public shortly thereafter.
